About Me

Hello. My name is Melissa Dotson, MS, LMHC, a psychotherapist and the president of Dotson Therapy & Associates, LLC in Indianapolis, Indiana. I have been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Indiana since 2016.


I have 14 years of mental health work experience dating back to 2008. I have worked in the health care setting since 1996 in a variety of positions, but the majority of that time was spent in the emergency department or critical care. I have experience dealing with mental health in the inpatient, outpatient, and subacute areas.


I have worked directly as a mental health counselor since 2014. I am experienced in, although my practice is not limited to, the following areas:

                  • Crisis Assessment
                  • Individual Therapy
                  • Substance Abuse Education and Relapse Prevention Groups
                  • Substance Abuse Assessment and Individual Therapy (Children, Adolescents, and Adults)

I have worked with individuals ranging from children as young as 14 years old to individuals in retirement.

Education

I obtained my undergraduate and two graduate degrees from The University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

                  • BA in Psychology With a Minor in History (May 2007)
                  • MS in Psychology (December 2009)
                  • MS in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (August 2014)

I obtained my counseling license with the state of Indiana in September 2016.
